FRENCH HORN INSTRUCTION AND PERFORMANCE

Why did I pick the horn? Well, I didn't!

The first day of class my middle school band director handed me a beaten up piece of metal (a horn) and said, "Play this." As great historical figures often say, I never looked back.

I didn't question playing the horn. I just never stopped. I've played in professional orchestras, chamber groups and concert bands all my life. I've taught horn since I was in college. The horn and music are simply who I am.

I currently perform with the wonderful Williamsburg (VA) Symphony, the Lakeside (Ohio) Symphony, the Eastern Virginia Brass Quintet and freelance in the area (Hampton Roads, VA).

I happily teach horn at Old Dominion University, Music and Arts, the ODU Community Music School and my home studio.

I've studied with marvelous teachers including Martin Morris of the Cleveland Orchestra and Edwin Thayer of the National Symphony.

And all this because a band director handed me a beaten-up horn decades ago.
